On Friday June 27, 2008 the Board of Directors of the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), launched the Emergency Recovery Project (ERP), the function was held at the May Pen Health Department a beneficiary of the project. The Honourable Bruce Golding, Prime Minister, served in the capacity of Guest Speaker at this function.
The highlights of the function was the signing of five (5) contracts valuing over $37M, for the rehabilitation of four roads in two parishes, as well as the rehabilitation of the May Pen Health Centre. In addition, Memoranda of Understanding were signed with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), and the Ministry of Education, with whom we will partner throughout the implementation of this project.
The portfolio consists of a total of eighty-six (86) projects, the breakdown is as follows:
17 Early Childhood Institutions
32 Primary Educational Institutions
22 Community based Health Clinics
15 Agricultural Feeder Roads
To date the Board of Directors have approved a total of forty-one (41) projects, 48% of the total portfolio, the projects are as follows:
16 Primary Schools
8 All Age Schools
7 Health Centres
10 Roads
There are currently twelve (12) projects that are in various stages of implementation. The Toll Gate Health Centre located in Clarendon, has been completed.
