National Water Commission

The National Water Commission (NWC) is a statutory organization charged with the responsibility of providing potable water and wastewater services for the people of Jamaica.

The JSIF has signed Memorandum of Understanding with the national provider for water in 2006. Before any water supply system projects are approved for funding the JSIF ensures that the NWC has no objection to the Fund undertaking the project. JSIF also gets the commitment from NWC in the case of certain systems that it would take responsibility for the long-term maintenance and upkeep of the project after completion. For community maintained water systems, NWC commits to provide certain technical assistance and periodic monitoring to ensure proper procedures are being followed.
