The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is the foremost planning agency of the government, and its functions include:
Initiating and coordinating the development of policies, plan and programmes for the economic, financial, social, cultural and physical development of Jamaica
Undertaking research on national development issues
Providing technical and research support to the Cabinet
Undertaking consultant activities for local and foreign Government entities
Managing external cooperation agreements and programmes
Collaborating with external funding agencies in the identification and implementation of development projects
Maintaining a national socio-economic library
The JSIF and the PIOJ have a longstanding partnership as in its early years JSIF fell under the jurisdiction of the PIOJ. The relationship continues with both institutions freely sharing information about their programs and projects.
The partnership is being further strengthened with the implementation of the Poverty Reduction Programme 2 (PRP2) which is a project being funded by the European Union. Under PRP 2 the JSIF is the implementing agency and the PIOJ as the national authorizing officer for the European Union and oversees the project execution.
