Registrar General's Department

The Registrar General's Department (RGD) is an Executive Agency which plays a key role in national development. It is Jamaica’s sole repository of birth, death, marriage and fetal death records.

The JSIF and the RGD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the end of January 2008 for the implementation of the Inner City Basic Services Project (ICBSP) sub-project Operation Certfication over a three months period to obtain civil registration documents.

Upon completion in April 2008, 1200 persons within the ICBSP communities were facilitated in acquiring birth certificates. In addition, the opportunity was created for these residents to access services and programmes provided by other State Agencies such as the Inland Revenue Department (TRN), the Programme of Advancement through Heath and Education (PATH), the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), the National Health Fund (NHF) and the Victim Support Unit.
