Rural Electrification Programme (REP)

The Rural Electrification Programme (REP) aims to extend electricity to rural Jamaica as part of the Government of Jamaica’s commitment to provide the entire island with access to electricity, stimulate economic and social activity in rural Jamaica, and provide better quality life in rural communities.

REP was issued a mandate, along with its activities in rural Jamaica to execute the Urban Electricity Regularization Programme (UERP). Under this programme, houses in the inner city areas will be assisted in regularizing their house wiring in order to access electricity legally.

The JSIF has entered in to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS Co) and the REP in 2006. The purpose of the agreement is to facilitate electricity regularization of households in twelve selected inner-city communities. As agreed in the MOU, REP will wire houses, certify work of contractors hired to do house wiring and other responsibilities outlined in the agreement.
