Jodiann Blissett - Alternative Livelihood and Skills Development JSIF and JPS. Currently I am among the new cohort of trainee
Hope Zoo Landscaping Project linesmen with JPS. It is fun and I am very determined to give
my best, and to be the best electrician I can be.
I started the alternative livelihood and skills development Hope
Zoo landscape and training project on November 21, 2013 Kadian doing an installation.
with little or no idea about landscaping. It was a wonderful
experience I am grateful for this opportunity; however, if it
wasn’t for JSIF, Ms. Scarlette Gillings, Ms. Karen, Mr. Robinson,
Mr. Richards and Mr. Benjamin, this programme wouldn’t
be possible so a special thank you goes out to all of them. I
can stand and say that this programme really educated us to
build a better Jamaica. When I hear the name JSIF, the top 3
things that come to my mind are education, empowerment,
and embrace. JSIF always create programmes that educate,
empower and embrace the youths of our country to build a
better Jamaica. At the end of the project I received a certificate
of completion and I was the only one who got retained for a
junior zookeeper position at Hope Zoo and became Jamaica’s
youngest zookeeper and I’m currently a senior zookeeper. I
hope JSIF will continue to empower educate and embrace the
youths of our country to build a better Jamaica. Once again I
thank you.
Kadian Hunter - JSIF Electrical Technology Trainee -
#JPSEMPOWERED PROJECT
In 2015-2016, my aunt Georgia Hunter and I were privileged to Georgia Hunter undertaking electrical work.
do our Diploma in Electrical Installation at Operation Friendship
with the aid of JSIF and JPS. I had previously started level II and
due to financial constraints was unable to finish until I received
the call to finish my level II and do level III. The experience
was great! The course was challenging, but I was determined
to make the opportunity count. Having my aunt Georgia also
on the programme also helped, as we studied together, and
assisted each other. It helped that our community, McGregor
Gardens, was the first to benefit from the JPS/JSIF house
wiring project as we got very good experience working in the
field during our off days wiring homes in our community. In
fact, I also had my house wired at no cost. Again thank you
