a contract for the rehabilitation and expansion of two schools
in western Jamaica. One contract, worth $1 million, was for
the renovation of the Mount Peto Basic School in Hanover and
the other, valued at $1 million, was for the expansion of the
Galloway Basic School in Westmoreland.
In 1999, JSIF had approved 157 projects, valued at millions.
Thirty-five of the approved projects were education ventures at
a cost of $1 billion. Then Managing Director of JSIF, Scarlette
Gillings, said the number of education projects being carried
out by the Fund was in keeping with the priority that the
Government had placed on education.
