The Jamaica Social Investment Fund continued its work, in           2006
      2006, dedicating millions towards the expansion, building
and refurbishing of school, community centres across the island,
including two newly constructed basic schools in Trelawny,
new sanitary facilities at Trout Hall All-Age and the repairing of
roads across the island. The Jamaica Social Investment Fund
was allotted $982 million to carry out social infrastructure
development works during the year. Up to September 2005,
JSIF had provided social and economic infrastructure for
Jamaica’s most underserved communities. Some 777 sub-
projects were approved for islandwide implementation, 526 of
which have been completed, reflecting a total investment of
over $3.2 billion.

Aside from the building and expansion of schools and other
infrastructure islandwide, JSIF also extended its reach by
providing factory equipment to the Reach Chips Factory in
Eastern Portland, valued at $272,000. The equipment include:
two Vulcan industrial deep fryers; one deep freezer; two
impulse sealers; one adjustable slice plate unit; cooling trays;
one skimmer, and cooking utensils.
