As part of a joint initiative between the Jamaica Social Old Works Basic School Construction & Equipping
Investment Fund (JSIF) and the Organisation of
Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), five poverty-stricken
communities in Portland were to be provided with potable
water. The communities are: Lighthouse, Spring Bank, Stony
Hill, Shot Over, and Ranch Hill, none of which have ever had
piped water flowing into their homes.
The Fund spent approximately $3 million to carry out Before
comprehensive repairs to sections of the Portland Cottage All-
Age School in southern Clarendon.
In addition, JSIF continued development of the country’s
education through the renovation of schools, opening a
volunteer centre and provided much-needed assistance to
members of the disabled community.
